Online class: Let’s Talk About Dying
Join me for a 2-hour mindful exploration of mortality. We’ll look at dying, hospice care and death in general and how it applies to our animal family members in particular.
Because of their (usually) much shorter lifespans, we are likely to outlive the animals we care for. Most of us have already experienced the passing of a pet. To many, that experience was lacking. We know death is coming, sooner or later, but often we prefer not to think about it. Let’s unbury the head from the sand and take a look together. It’s less scary that way.
Hospice care refers to a very specific type of end-of-life care. The dying animal receives palliative care and is allowed to live out their life as fully and comfortably as possible. Euthanasia is available when all measures fail to maintain efficient comfort. It’s an exception, performed at time of need, not the rule.
In this online Zoom class, I’ll reflect on my experience with my own pets’ deaths as well as with supporting my clients while they cared for their dying animal. I’ll offer a contemplative practice to befriend mortality and reduce fear of The Inevitable. You’ll take away tools to further explore this topic on your own.
This class is about the mental and emotional preparedness needed to embark on this road less travelled. It is NOT about the ‘nuts and bolts’ of animal hospice care, we won’t go into the practical aspects of actively providing comfort care for your dying animal. This information will be the topic of a future online class.
